Roma are beginning to sweat about the future of Alexis Saelemaekers, with AC Milan expected to stand firm on their asking price.
The future of Saelemaekers remains uncertain beyond the summer given that he headed to the capital on a season-long dry loan deal. After a difficult first part of the season, the Belgian has been a revelation under Claudio Ranieri in the right wing-back role.
Today’s edition of Il Messaggero (via MilanNews) reports that Saelemaekers’ performances have attracted the interest of several English teams. Milan are wanting around €20m to sell, and the Premier League clubs that are circling means they have leverage.
Nottingham Forest have been in the running to land the ex-Anderlecht man for some time but now Newcastle United are keen on signing him too, along with another Roma player: Serbian goalkeeper Mile Svilar.
Milan’s technical director Geoffrey Moncada was asked about the situation linked to Saelemaekers and Tammy Abraham – who joined Milan from Roma on loan – before the defeat to Atalanta on Sunday.
His response suggested a very open negotiation: “We’ll talk to Roma at the end of the season, his and Abraham’s are two very different loans.” The same paper did report earlier in the month that Saelemaekers wants a permanent move to Roma, but Milan’s price must be met.
