Wigan Athletic are reportedly interested in a move for Huddersfield Town playmaker Antony Evans
Wigan Athletic are interested in completing a move for Huddersfield Town midfielder Antony Evans ahead of the 2025/26 League One campaign.
According to a recent update from Alan Nixon of The Sun, via his exclusive Patreon service on Sunday morning, Wigan manager Ryan Lowe is keen to make Evans his first signing at the Brick Community Stadium after being appointed as manager back in March on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
Wigan finished the campaign in 15th position under Lowe, who drew seven of his opening eleven matches in charge during the back-end of last season.
They will hope, however, to push up the league table and contend for a return to the Championship ahead of Lowe's first full campaign, and are already intent on bolstering the squad currently at the disposal of the former Preston North End boss.
As claimed in Nixon's report, Evans could be sold by League One rivals Huddersfield for a cut-price fee, while there is also the prospect of the Terriers deciding to loan out the midfielder after just a sole season in West Yorkshire.
It's said that Wigan are first in the queue to land his services this summer, although there will likely be no shortage of suitors for Evans considering his proven quality and experience at League One level.
The ex-Everton prospect endured a challenging debut campaign at Huddersfield after completing a high-profile £450,000 move to join the Terriers from Bristol Rovers last summer.
Evans starred at the Memorial Stadium and registered ten goals and eight assists across all competitions in his final season with the Gas, but was unable to replicate those sort of numbers in what proved an underwhelming season at Huddersfield for all concerned.
Evans recorded two goals and six assists from 34 league appearances, 21 of which were starts, as Huddersfield finished 10th in their first season back in the Championship after losing six of their last seven matches.
The attacking midfielder has real talent and has shown exactly what he's capable of in League One, even if he hasn't quite hit the heights at Huddersfield just yet.
But he could be an impressively shrewd acquisition for Wigan if they can unlock the performance levels which made such an impression during his time with Rovers.
Evans would fit the profile as a replacement for Thelo Aasgaard, who left in a big-money move to Luton Town back in January, and could be the statement signing needed to help propel Wigan into promotion contention.
