This is the first time in the 2025 MLS regular season where we can mention that the Los Angeles Galaxy are coming off back-to-back wins. After a 2-1 win over D.C. United, the reigning MLS Cup champs have finally won consecutive games. In fact, they have won three in a row at home dating back to May 31.
Both Marco Rues and Diego Fagundez found the back of the net last weekend. Fagundez and the rest of the Galaxy are facing his former team, Austin FC. The LA Galaxy's Player of the Month for June and July has also reinvigorated this offense.
But which player could have the bigger game for on Wednesday night?
In the LA Galaxy's last nine games, the former Borussia Dortmund star has scored four times and contributed six assists.
Reus is the reason why the LA Galaxy salvaged a 2-2 draw against LAFC during Rivalry Week. Not on did he score the first goal of the game, he scored the fourth and final goal of the contest between the LA Galaxy and their cross-town rival.
The 36-year-old athlete also delivered another decisive score in the 1-1 draw against the San Jose Earthquakes. Without his goal, the LA Galaxy would have suffered another crippling loss.
The only hit to Reus' claim of being the team's MVP is that he did not play in the LA Galaxy's first win of the season. The German footballer did not take the field in the 2-0 victory over Real Salt Lake.
This guy has already made history this season. Not only did he appear in his 400th career game, he also scored his 150th goal on the same day. We're talking about former Austin FC and current LA Galaxy star, Diego Fagundez.
The Uruguay native has yet to record an assist this season. However, his versatility has allowed head coach Greg Vanney to play Fagundez up top more. Reus has been utilized the same way, too.
Prior to Saturday's goal, Fagundez's goals did not occur during an LA Galaxy win. Instead, two took place during slim defeats and a third in a 1-1 draw against the Houston Dynamo. That happened to also be the same game the 30-year-old star made history, as mentioned earlier.
Entering Wednesday night against his former team, Fagundez has made 25% of his shots. While the LA Galaxy has not had anywhere near an explosive offense as they did last year, this LA Galaxy midfielder has done his part.
After all, it was both LA Galaxy players who contributed to the 2-1 win over D.C. United. The defending MLS Cup champs are without stars from last year like Dejan Joveljic, Marky Delgado (trades), and Riqui Puig (injury).
There's no reason why the Los Angeles Galaxy can't win a third game in a row and a fourth consecutive at home. It was just last season when the six-time MLS Cup winners went unbeaten at Dignity Health Sports Park. Maybe they regained that level of swagger thanks to Reus and Fagundez.
Expect one or both of those men to fill the stat sheet on Wednesday night. Fagundez could score his fifth on the season while Reus not only assists on the play but nets one himself.
