Leicester City have made a decision over when to sack manager Ruud van Nistelrooy
Leicester City have decided when to dismiss manager Ruud van Nistelrooy after suffering relegation to the Championship.
The Foxes went out of the top-flight with a whimper, becoming the first Premier League team to lose nine home games in a row without scoring a single goal, making for a miserable atmosphere at the King Power Stadium come the end of the year.
The Dutchman was appointed as Leicester boss in November 2024 but is set to exit his post in the near future.
Leicester City have decided to part ways with their manager at the start of July.
According to Alan Nixon via Patreon, the Foxes are waiting until after June 30 so that there are not two managerial sackings and pay-offs in the same financial year.
Leicester are still waiting on the outcome of their alleged PSR breach, which could result in a minimum 12-point penalty if found guilty.
The club have had their mind made up on Van Nistelrooy for weeks but are waiting to officially commence proceedings when it makes financial sense for them.
The Foxes have already begun sounding out potential replacements for the 48-year-old, with Sean Dyche believed to be in pole position to take over.
The decision over Van Nistelrooy’s successor does hang on the outcome of Leicester’s potential points penalty, but the club hope that their manager is willing to bypass that handicap.
All parties involved will hope for the matter to be resolved as soon as possible, with the beginning of the 2025/26 Championship campaign edging ever closer.
When Van Nistelrooy arrived at the King Power Stadium in November, there was a great sense of optimism surrounding the appointment.
The Dutchman had just won three and drawn one of the four matches he enjoyed in charge of Manchester United, following the dismissal of Erik Ten Hag.
This record is particularly impressive when taking into account the Red Devils’ awful form both before and after his period in the Old Trafford dugout.
However, it became quickly apparent that Van Nistelrooy wasn’t going to be able to replicate that success with the Foxes.
A run of 17 defeats from 19 matches is inexcusable and didn’t really leave the higher-ups at Leicester with any other choice but to hand the 48-year-old his marching orders.
The Foxes dismissed Steve Cooper with the club 16th in the table – a standing that would turn out to be the best it would get for Leicester following Van Nistelrooy’s appointment.
Time will tell what’s next for the former Manchester United marksman, but it’s fair to say that his King Power adventure has proved to be an unfortunate misstep.
