Sky Sports today looked back at the weekend’s results, and in Chelsea’s case they had just one question to ask – “have Chelsea turned a corner under Mauricio Pochettino?”

We feel like we’ve seen the debate multiple times this season, and thus far the answer has always proved to be “no,” in the end, despite some really positive moments.

Both their pundits certainly felt very positively about our chances after 5 consecutive good halves of football. But Steven Warnock’s idea for this summer was pretty clear too. He thinks we should be selling players to reduce the size of the squad, and replacing those outgoings with “quality.”

“He will be looking to shift players out… condensing that squad and making it a little big smaller and a little bit tighter, and making sure he’s bringing his training numbers down. It’s very difficult to keep everyone happy [with a bloated squad].”

You can see their discussion in the clip embedded here:

We all saw last season just how toxic an overstuffed squad can be. That was a unique situation considering so many of those on the books knew they were being sold, but it was a totally unmanageable situation for Graham Potter and then Frank Lampard as morale bottomed out, with half the squad counting the days until they could move on to pastures new.

There haven’t been similar issues this year because so many players are new, and because the injury crisis has meant everyone who has been able to stay fit has had a shot at some first team action. But clearing out any pieces which don’t fit the puzzle and replacing them with QUALITY (not just teenage Brazilians) is certainly the way to go.

Have we turned the corner? If we have, we will surely win our last 3 games. So let’s see.
