Milan have suddenly lost Kyle Walker for a number of weeks, as the defender suffered a right elbow fracture in training. He quickly underwent surgery, repairing the olecranon through osteosynthesis. The operation was successful.
According to La Repubblica, the timetable for the return of the fullback will be clearer in the next few days, but he should be out for about a month. It means that he’ll miss the return leg of the Coppa Italia semi-finals versus Inter on April 23rd. The Rossoneri will turn to Alex Jimenez, Alessandro Florenzi, and Filippo Terracciano in relief, unless they decide to adapt a center-back.
Walker sustaining a significant injury could potentially impact his future, as Milan haven’t made up their mind about buying him out for €5M yet. However, they are leaning in such a direction.
According to Calciomercato, they will be in touch with Manchester City also to discuss Tijjani Reijnders. He has become a target for Pep Guardiola’s team, which intends to retool its midfield. He extended his contract not too long ago, tying himself down until 2030. He’s making €3.5M annually.
While that suggests he won’t go anywhere, missing out on the Champions League and a €50/60M offer could make the higher-ups and the star waver.
It’s unfortunate, but it’s a freak and not a massive injury that shouldn’t influence their call. The pairing of the veteran and Jimenez at right-back could work well for a couple of seasons. Instead, it’d be dispiriting if they even entertained the possibility of selling the Dutchman.
