Sporting CP manager Rui Borges has urged fans to "make the most" of their limited time with striker Viktor Gyokeres, who is expected to seal a big-money move to the Premier League this summer.

With 44 goals in as many games this season and a total of 87 goals and 26 assists in 94 outings for Sporting to date, Gyokeres has emerged as one of Europe's deadliest strikers since his arrival in Portugal in 2023.

Most of the continent's elite have expressed an interest in Gyokeres. Arsenal are thought to be ramping up their interest in the Sweden international, who is a known target for the likes of Chelsea and Manchester United as well.

With an agreement to lower his asking price below £60m this summer, Gyokeres is widely expected to depart Sporting this summer and manager Borges has now confessed a departure is inching closer.

"Viktor is a player... I think there are no words: it is unlikely that another player of his quality will emerge in our league over the next few years," Borges told the media. "He is clearly above average.

"Sporting recognised his talent, and here we are. Fortunately, we have him at Sporting. We must make the most of the time we have with him because he is truly exceptional. I have said this before, and I will continue to say it: he brings a lot to the team, and his teammates are aware of what he contributes, which is why they look for him during games.

"The collective effort also plays a role, as no one can succeed alone. Viktor is a game-changer, and he will continue to be, whether with us or elsewhere. His quality is undeniable; it is phenomenal."

Gyokeres is believed to be keen to join a team capable of challenging for major European honours immediately, handing second-placed Arsenal a boost to their hopes of landing his signature. Indeed, Chelsea are now thought to be looking at RB Leipzig's Benjamin Sesko and Ipswich Town's Liam Delap, the latter of whom is now emerging as a target for United.

Explaining what makes Gyokeres so impressive, Borges continued: "He is the best in the league, clearly. There are no adjectives to describe Viktor. He is an extraordinary striker, very important to our team, he has helped the team to grow with confidence, quality of play, he passes it on to his teammates.

"He is a focused player, who pays attention to details, he is competitive, never lets his guard down, and doesn't want to rest. It is a young team, and he, as an athlete, player and teammate, instils confidence in his team-mates with what he gives to the team."
