Roma vice-captain Gianluca Mancini was accused of giving up in the build-up to Bologna’s third goal in an eventual 3-2 victory for the Rossoblu in Ivan Juric’s final game in charge at the Stadio Olimpico.
Juric was sacked as Roma head coach directly after the loss to Bologna after just two months in charge of the Giallorossi. The Croatian left with the team in 12th place in the Serie A table on 13 points from their opening 12 matches of the 2024-25 season.
During the 3-2 loss on Sunday, Mancini, who was wearing the captain’s armband in the absence of Lorenzo Pellegrini, appeared to stand still while Bologna broke through in the build-up to Jesper Karlsson’s goal.
The Giallorossi centre-back had stepped out of the defensive line, but showed little urgency in getting back into position before Karlsson converted after breaking into the vacant space in the penalty area.
Though Stephan El Shaarawy went on to claw one back for Roma with an impressive finish off the frame of the goal, Karlsson’s strike proved to be the eventual winner, which resulted in the termination of Juric’s contract after full-time.
