AC Milan seem to have outlined a key pre-requisite in their pursuit of a new head coach: they must know Italian football, and know it well.
According to what is being reported by Tuttosport (via MilanPress), the Milan management are already looking for Sergio Conceicao’s successor and to be in such a situation suggests that something went seriously wrong in the decisions made last summer.
In fact, CEO Giorgio Furlani, technical director Geoffrey Moncada and Senior Advisor Zlatan Ibrahimovic seem to agree on one thing: the new coach will have to ‘speak [be] Italian’. By comparison, one of the criteria was to find an international profile and not a domestic one for 2024-25.
The paper speaks of two ‘forbidden dreams’ that the club are holding onto: Carlo Ancelotti and Antonio Conte. Both currently have jobs – at Real Madrid and Napoli respectively – but there is a lot of noise surrounding potential exits.
Gian Piero Gasperini of Atalanta is another name mentioned, with Maurizio Sarri in the background, though he is unlikely to arrive if Igli Tare becomes the new sporting director because of the previous clashes.
Massimiliano Allegri would be more than willing to return to the Rossoneri and he is out of work. Finally, the previously-linked Roberto De Zerbi and now Vincenzo Italiano complete the list.
