The heartache of two seasons ago when the title was taken away in the last few seconds of the season when Glasgow City walked in a goal at Ibrox with not a defender in sight. That denied Celtic the title as the rollercoaster afternoon left the Celtic FC Women team devastated.
A year on Celtic had matters in their own hands. Fran Alonso had built up a huge goal difference advantage – he was determined NOT going to lose the title that way again, but when Houston Dash came calling, it was an offer too good to refuse.

Celtic brought in Elena Sadiku, a youth coach working at Everton and to her credit she guided Celtic to the title. That too went all the way to the last few seconds of the season, with Hibs holding on their clean sheet and Celtic needing goal to become SWPL Champions for the first time in the club’s history.

When it looked like theRangers were going to win it after all, up stepped Amy Gallagher and her goal certainly made theRangers cry. Sweet moments for Celtic on a dramatic afternoon at Paradise.
Best laid plans and all that. Celtic arranged this Sunday’s game against Motherwell to be played at Celtic Park a while back. It’s been on the fixtures list on the official Celtic FC website since the post-split fixtures were announced.
Last year a sizeable Celtic support was housed in the lower North Stand. The year before the Green Wall of The Celtic End filled the lower filled the lower Jock Stein stand as an attendance record was set for women’s football in Scotland. The North stand lower was also busy.
This time around Celtic yesterday posted an announcement on the official Celtic FC website and a post on X , with kick-off time and price details for supporters wishing to attend.
Here’s what the club had to say on the official Celtic FC website about the Celtic FC Women v Motherwell match at Celtic Park on Sunday lunchtime.
Celtic FC Women will complete their SWPL campaign when they take on Motherwell this Sunday, May 18 (KO: 12pm), at Celtic Park.
Elena Sadiku’s side are aiming to finish the season on a high as they return to Paradise on the final day of the season, and you can back the Ghirls as they aim to end strongly by taking all three points.

Time for a re-think, a re-build and a conversation about Celtic’s financial commitment to building the best women’s side in Scottish football. Not one that will finish fourth or even fifth.
