Celtic and Rangers are both monitoring Blackburn Rovers' Tyrhys Dolan, who is out of contract in the summer.
Celtic and Rangers are both interested in Blackburn’s Tyrhys Dolan as he prepares to leave Ewood Park this summer when his contract expires.
The 23-year-old has enjoyed a productive campaign for Rovers, scoring seven goals and registering six assists as the side just missed out on a play-off place.
As well as the end product, Dolan impressed with his all-round game, and with his contract expiring, it was always going to be difficult for Blackburn to keep him at the club.
And it appears the winger could get the chance to move to Glasgow, as Herald Scotland has revealed that Celtic and Rangers are ‘monitoring his situation’, along with clubs from England.
The update explains that champions Celtic are expected to be in the market for attacking reinforcements after an injury to Jota will see him miss a chunk of next season. Plus, they claim that Dolan was on the Hoops’ radar in the January window.
Meanwhile, Rangers are also keen, with the Ibrox outfit set for a major rebuild as they look to end Celtic’s recent dominance domestically.
Even though he will be a free agent, Blackburn are entitled to compensation due to Dolan’s age, although the report states only a ‘minimal fee’ would be paid by either Glasgow side as it would be a cross-border move, whereas Rovers would secure a bigger fee if he moved to another English club.
Dolan has improved considerably over the past few years, and he was a constant threat for Blackburn this season.
He plays with pace, intensity and has a direct style, which would be perfectly suited to either Celtic or Rangers, who generally play on the front foot and with an attacking approach.
Of course, there are areas of the game that Dolan needs to improve, but it’s worth remembering that he is still relatively young, so there is room for development.
Ultimately, Dolan’s contract situation means he is in a position where he can decide his future, and he will be an attractive option to clubs who will see him as a potential bargain.
If Celtic or Rangers do firm up their interest in the player, they’re going to appeal to Dolan, as they are two huge clubs who can also offer European football, which could be the Champions League, so it would be a massive step-up.
