St. Pauli are sitting just three points clear of the bottom three after winning only one of their last eight Bundesliga matches (D2, L5). Their sole victory in that period took place in their most recent home outing against Hoffenheim. On that occasion, Noah Weißhaupt scored the game’s decisive goal to seal a narrow 1-0 victory for Alexander Blessin’s side.
They were unable to take anything from their most recent outing against leaders Bayern Munich, although they did show great fight in a narrow 3-2 defeat at the Allianz Arena. They will now return to the Millerntor-Stadion, where they have the chance to claim back-to-back home league wins for the first time this season.
The first go will be crucial to St. Pauli’s chances of claiming all three points, having lost all 16 of their league games this season, where they have conceded the opening goal. Part of the reasoning for that statistic is that St. Pauli have failed to find the net in 14 of their 27 Bundesliga matches this season.
The hosts are unable to call upon the services of Siebe Van der Heyden, James Sands, Karol Mets, Sascha Burchert and Simon Zoller.
Gladbach will head into Sunday’s fixture on the back of a positive run of results after winning three of their previous four league matches. After claiming a 3-0 win over Heidenheim, Gladbach fell to a 3-1 defeat against Mainz, before bouncing back with a 4-2 victory against Werder Bremen.
Die Fohlen returned from the international break with a 1-0 win against RB Leipzig, bringing an end to their three-game winless home run. As a result of their fine form, they are firmly in the hunt to achieve their first top-four finish since 2019-20, with just three points separating them from the Champions League qualification spots.
Gladbach will fancy their chances of taking maximum points from Sunday’s encounter, having won their last four Bundesliga away matches, scoring at least two goals in each of those victories. With that said, die Fohlen have failed to win any of their previous four Bundesliga away games against promotion sides (D3, L1).
Gerardo Seoane is still without Jonas Omlin, Moritz Nicolas and Niklas Swider, while Philipp Sander remains sidelined due to illness.
