It was a disappointing loan spell at Manchester United for Sofyan Amrabat last season and his chances of coming back to Old Trafford seem to be slipping away.

The Premier League’s pace and physicality seemed to overwhelm the Moroccan while arriving on the back of not having a proper pre-season did not help matters either.

Erik ten Hag chose to play his former FC Utrecht protege at left-back and that further dented his confidence. Both parties regretted the decision and a permanent stay was unlikely.

Then the Qatar World Cup hero proceeded to play a blinder in the FA Cup final with the clamour to keep him increasing. However, United allowed his loan deal to expire and along with it the right to buy him for €20 million.

Amrabat’s future

The Red Devils are unlikely to pay as much with The Peoples Person relaying that another loan approach could be made with the defensive midfielder desperate to leave Fiorentina.

Givemesport have claimed that United will only go back in for the Morocco international should the chance to sign Manuel Ugarte slip away.

It is well known that INEOS want to bring in the Uruguayan with the Paris Saint-Germain star agreeing on personal terms with the 20-time English league champions.

“Manchester United are increasingly unlikely to take advantage of the option to sign Sofyan Amrabat on a permanent basis from Fiorentina as boss Erik ten Hag is keen to land Paris Saint-Germain defensive midfielder Manuel Ugarte as he aims to strengthen his Old Trafford squad, GIVEMESPORT sources have revealed.

“GMS sources have been informed that he only has a future with the Premier League giants if a move for Ugarte proves difficult and alternative avenues are blocked off.

Amrabat unlikely to come back

“GMS sources have learned that Manchester United are only being linked with handing Amrabat a Premier League lifeline because they have been unable to source a replacement at this stage, but there is a slim chance of a fresh loan agreement or cut-price deal being on the cards despite original indications being that his time at Old Trafford was up.”

Keeping in mind budgetary restrictions, only player sales will allow the English giants to make a move for the 2024 Copa America standout star.

They are open to a loan approach but PSG are unlikely to entertain it unless they find a way to alleviate the loss of the Uruguay international.

For now, it seems the club is prioritising a move for Ugarte and should that fail, they might come back for Amrabat. Or maybe as a form of improving the team’s depth. It is clear that he is not the first-choice target to improve the team’s midfield.
