Liverpool’s new head coach Arne Slot is already very impressed with one of the Reds’ returning stars.

The majority of the presumed first XI are yet to have their first official meeting with the new head coach. But there are a few senior players around the AXA and Mohamed Salah is one of those - and it's safe to say Slot has been impressed by what he's seen so far.

Amid reports that it's Liverpool that have 'most recently' been in contact to sign the 23-year-old, BILD claim the Dutchman 'dreams' of playing for the Merseyside giants.

Having said that, the Reds will have to move fast to wrap up a deal for Frimpong as it's been reported that his £34 million release clause is active for one week after Sunday's Euro 2024 final.

CaughtOffside claims that negotiations are progressing over a potential move and that while the 22-year-old - who has also been linked with Man United and Arsenal - has a €60m (£51.5m) release clause at Sporting, there is the growing feeling that the Portuguese giants could compromise on that fee.

Interest in the 25-year-old has been quite high but a switch to Nottingham Forest appears to be off the table with the Premier League side confirming the signing of Carlos Miguel from Brazilian outfit Corinthians.

And it seems Kelleher will not be joining Celtic either. This is because Record Sport understands that Kasper Schmeichel has agreed a one-year deal.

With the 29-year-old a free agent after leaving Serie A giants at the end of last month following the expiry of his contract, he could turn out to be a shrewd addition should the club pursue a deal.

John Barnes: Eze better than Gordon

Eberechi Eze would be a better signing for Liverpool than Anthony Gordon this summer. That is the view of club legend John Barnes.

Barnes doesn't believe Gordon would represent good value, especially when taking into consideration that Cody Gakpo and Luis Diaz are natural left-sided wingers.

"Gordon will be a good signing but you can't just keep signing players because you've got to keep them happy and if no one's going to leave why would we keep signing players," Barnes told mybettingsites.co.uk, as per Tribal Football.

"If Liverpool were to make signings I think with Arne Slot, Eze would probably be a better signing."
