The agent of Sampdoria defender Giovanni Leoni has denied transfer links that the teenager will be joining Inter Milan.

The 17-year-old’s agent claimed to Italian outlet Blucerchiati.net that there will not be a transfer to the Nerazzurri despite links to the contrary.

Inter have been eyeing up a deal for Leoni this summer.

Despite still being just seventeen years of age, the Nerazzurri see the young Italian as capable of developing into a top-class defender at senior level over the next few years.

Therefore, Inter want to sign Leoni this summer. Then, likely loan him back to Sampdoria.

There have already been talks between the Nerazzurri and the Blucerchiati, according to reports.

Juventus and Torino are reportedly also keen from within Serie A.

And then the likes of Tottenham Hotspur and Monaco have reportedly shown an interest in bringing the teenage defender to the Premier League and Ligue 1 respectively.

The most significant competition may in fact come from Napoli however.

Still, the most prominent links have been to Inter. That is, however, until Leoni’s agent has evidently put the brakes on these rumours.

Agent Of Giovanni Leoni Puts Brakes On Inter Milan Links

Leoni’s agent told Blucerchiati.net that “He’s not going to join Inter.”

“At the moment there is no news,” he said regarding the teenage defender’s future. “But he’s not going to join Inter.”

As far as whether he expects Leoni to stay at Sampdoria, the agent said “At the moment I’d say yes.”

Sampdoria signed Leoni for just €1.5 million this summer. They exercised a purchase option to make his loan from Padova last season into a permanent deal.

However, the Blucerchiati would now certainly be expecting a much higher fee to sell the teenage defender.

The fee would certainly be no less than €5 million. It could even be higher.
