Chelsea’s campaign has hit another stumbling block with fresh injury concerns adding to their growing list of absentees. Following a bruising 3-0 defeat at Brighton, Enzo Maresca’s squad must quickly regroup before a crucial trip to Aston Villa. With just two wins in their last nine Premier League outings, the Blues find themselves in desperate need of stability, both in terms of results and squad fitness.
Noni Madueke was the latest casualty in Chelsea’s defeat to Brighton, forced off in the first half after pulling up with a hamstring issue. The winger had shown promise in his attacking movements, including a well-placed cross for Cole Palmer, before immediately signalling to the bench for treatment.

Post-match, Maresca confirmed the severity of the injury, indicating Madueke could be sidelined for an extended period.
“Noni unfortunately it’s a hamstring problem, he will be out for a while,” the Chelsea boss admitted.

Malo Gusto also left the pitch prematurely against Brighton, prompting concerns over his availability. The young full-back appeared to be struggling with discomfort in his hip but was able to walk off unaided.

However, Maresca swiftly dispelled fears of a serious setback, reassuring supporters that Gusto’s issue was not significant.
“Malo is okay,” Maresca stated, leaving the door open for his return against Aston Villa.

In more positive news, Wesley Fofana is making strides towards full fitness. The defender has endured a lengthy absence since December due to a hamstring injury, sparking concerns that he could miss the remainder of the season.
Fortunately for Chelsea, Maresca has confirmed that Fofana has returned to training and is edging closer to a first-team comeback.

“Wes Fofana started to work with us two days ago,” Maresca revealed. “That means he still needs two or three weeks to be 100 per cent fit. But at least he has started to work with us.”
Potential return date: March 2025
Chelsea’s depth continues to be tested with Nicolas Jackson, Romeo Lavia, Marc Guiu, and Benoît Badiashile all still on the recovery trail. Jackson’s absence is set to stretch into April after suffering a hamstring injury, while Lavia remains in the process of rehabilitation following a muscle issue sustained in January.

Marc Guiu’s setback has been described as “bad,” with Maresca hinting that the young forward could be out for several weeks or even months. Badiashile is also still working towards his return, though no definitive timeline has been provided.
With a packed fixture schedule looming, Chelsea will need to navigate this injury crisis carefully. Every returning player will provide a much-needed boost as they attempt to stabilise their faltering season.
