Real Madrid’s plans for the FIFA Club World Cup have been shaken by the recent hospitalisation of Kylian Mbappe.
An acute gastroenteritis episode, which led to the player being admitted to a hospital in the United States, has significantly impacted Xabi Alonso’s strategy.
Although Mbappe was discharged from hospital on Thursday, question marks remain over his return to action.
Now, according to Cadena SER, Mbappe is unlikely to make a comeback for Real Madrid in the remaining two group stage matches of the Club World Cup.
A return against Pachuca on Sunday was already unlikely even though the 26-year-old forward had started doing aerobic exercises at the team hotel.

And, even though there were hopes that he could return next week against RB Salzburg, the report suggests that Mbappe might not be able to participate in that match either.
As such, fans might have to wait until the Round of 16 to see the former PSG superstar back in action, provided Real Madrid make it past the group stages.
With Endrick also unavailable through injury, Xabi Alonso will once again likely turn to Gonzalo Garcia, who scored against Al-Hilal, as his centre-forward.
Alternatively, the manager could field Rodrygo as the No. 9 and deploy one of Arda Guler or Brahim Diaz on the right flank while he waits for Mbappe’s return.
In his debut season with Los Blancos, the 2018 FIFA World Cup winner has racked up more than 40 goals in all competitions, winning two trophies. He will hope to make a swift recovery and help the team go all the way in the Club World Cup.
