This past summer, Paris Saint-Germain was linked to various center-backs to bolster their defense, and one name in the rumor mill was Al-Nassr standout Aymeric Laporte.

In August, José Alvarez Haya from El Chiringuito reported that PSG is one of several European clubs, along with Atlético Madrid and Real Madrid, competing for the Spaniard.

The report highlights PSG’s interest in the player, driven by manager Luis Enrique’s desire to bring Laporte to the club. Enrique coached Laporte during his time as Spain’s national team manager, so this rumor made sense from a sporting perspective.

Nonetheless, now that the transfer window has closed for most top European leagues, Laporte appears to hint at a potential move back to Europe, whether it’s in January or next summer.

“In Saudi Arabia, I am far from my environment and my family,” Laporte said. “It is something we thought about when we went there and we will surely have to think about it in the future to know if I would like to return to Europe or not.”

The 30-year-old spent last season playing for Al-Nassr in Saudi Arabia, but after being part of Spain’s UEFA Euro 2024-winning squad, it’s no surprise there are European suitors.

Before leaving for Saudi Arabia, Laporte spent time with Athletic Club from 2012 to 2018 and then moved to Manchester City, where he played from 2018 to 2023.
