Today’s photo of the day rewinds to Chris Sutton’s playing career.
The Englishman was a fantastic striker, though he could also be deployed in central midfield and as a centre back! He made his mark as a defender at Norwich City, finishing in the upper echelons of English football with the Canaries and faring well in Europe. Sutton then progressed to a centre forward role at Blackburn Rovers – a role in which he won the Golden Boot award in the English Premier League to go with his league winner’s medal.
A move to Chelsea didn’t work out and Chris was devoid of confidence for a while. However, all of that was about to change on this day 25 years ago. It was then that Martin O’Neill broke Celtic’s transfer record by persuading the club to outlay £6m on the player.

It was money well spent!
