Emile Heskey believes it would be “overkill” if Chelsea decided to make a move for Aston Villa star Morgan Rogers.

Chelsea have already made three attacking signings this summer in Liam Delap, Jamie Gittens and Joao Pedro, with the latter scoring in the Club World Cup final.

It’s not been ruled out another attacker could arrive, whilst the Blues are also said to be in the market for a left sided defender.

Chelsea are said to want as many as eight or nine attacking options in their squad to rotate between next season.

Noni Madueke has left for Arsenal, meaning there’s space for one more, whilst Christopher Nkunku and Joao Felix are expected to leave.

There are question marks surrounding the future of Nicolas Jackson, whilst Chelsea have been linked with the likes of Mohammed Kudus, who’s now joined Spurs, and Hugo Ekitike, who’s closing in on a move to Liverpool.

Rogers has been described as a “dream” target for Chelsea, but a move for the England international won’t be easy.

Villa are said to want around £80-£90m for the 22-year-old, and Heskey feels despite Rogers’ talent, it would be “overkill” for Chelsea to sign him.

“It would be interesting as it’s another Manchester City player who might make their way to Chelsea, but I think he should spend another year at Villa, at least,” he said as quoted by Goal.

“He’s going well, the club are on the up, and they could break into that top four this season. That’s a really big challenge and a good one for him, too.

“I think if he did go to Chelsea, he could be fantastic, but for Chelsea it might be overkill, buying players for the sake of it.”

Villa interested in Nicolas Jackson

Whilst Chelsea are interested in Rogers, it’s believed Villa also hold an interest in Jackson, who Unai Emery knows well.

Despite reports suggesting Jackson wants to stay at Chelsea, speculation about his future has gone into overdrive.

AC Milan are interested as well as Manchester United, and it will be interesting to see if Villa did move, if Chelsea would respond with a move for Rogers.
