Liverpool Women have completed the permanent signing of Sam Kerr from Bayern Munich.
The Scotland international returns to Merseyside after spending the second-half of last season on loan at the Reds.
Kerr was contracted with Bayern Munich for two years after previous spells at Glasgow City and Rangers.
The 26-year-old who plays in midfield is Liverpool’s third signing of the summer transfer window.
Liverpool Women revealed the signing of goalkeeper Rafaela Borggrafe just hours before announcing Kerr’s return.
Sam Kerr spoke to the official website of Liverpool Women after successfully passing a medical and signing a contract.
She said: “I’m so excited to get started and I’ve enjoyed my spell here so I just wanted to make it a little bit longer now.
“So I’m really happy that we could get it over the line and that I’m here for the long term.
“I think I knew after a couple of months that I was here that I was really loving it and if I had the opportunity to stay it’s something that I’d love to do.
“And when Liverpool came in, there wasn’t even a second thought. It was, ‘I want to do this and I want to stay at Liverpool.’”
During her loan spell last season, Sam Kerr made 14 WSL appearances – all in the starting XI – and scored one goal.
Liverpool Women endured a difficult season as they finished seventh in the Women’s Super League.
Kerr’s return is important for a Liverpool side who have lost both Taylor Hinds and Olivia Smith to Arsenal.
Smith broke a world record fee by becoming the first player in women’s football history to be signed for £1 million.
Prior to signing for Liverpool, Kerr lifted the German league title with Bayern Munich in 2024.
She has enjoyed significant success in Scotland, winning five league titles – four with Glasgow City and one with Rangers.
Kerr was crowned Scotland Women’s Player of the Year in 2022 and was twice selected in the PFA Scotland Team of the Year.
Liverpool Women will hope to do more business before the season gets underway in September.
One piece of business that still needs to be done is the recruitment of a new manager.
Liverpool have held talks with former Man City boss Gareth Taylor, but no appointment has yet been made.
Meanwhile, the Reds will find out on July 25th their fixture schedule for the 2025-26 Women’s Super League season.
