While still prioritising his move to Arsenal, Viktor Gyokeres is not opposed to joining Manchester United if a deal fails to materialise with the Gunners.

The forward has been in talks with Arsenal for several weeks now as they look to strike up an agreement that sees him make the switch to the Emirates.

From the London club’s perspective, they are keen to add him to their ranks for less than the £69 million fee Sporting Lisbon are demanding. However, you can’t really blame them for wanting to ensure they make their money’s worth from their talisman’s exit.

Viktor Gyokeres still faces an uncertain future this summer

Gyokeres is on the back of yet another scintillating campaign in Portugal, which saw him net 54 goals in 52 matches whilst also contributing 13 assists.

Alas, it came as no surprise to the United faithful when reports emerged detailing Ruben Amorim’s desire to reunite with his former frontman in M16, although the chances of the transfer materialising plummeted after the side’s Europa League final defeat confirmed they wouldn’t be playing Champions League football in 2025/2026.

United have retained their interest throughout the summer, despite Gyokeres informing them his priority has been given to Arsenal.

The 27-year-old, who played 68 games under Amorim and returned 66 goals in one-and-a-half seasons, is now refusing to train with Sporting during their pre-season preparations until he is granted his desired transfer.

What Gyokeres thinks of a potential United move

Should Arsenal and the Primeira Liga champions fail to see eye-to-eye on a fee in the coming days, it could open the door for the Reds to swoop in.

“Viktor Gyokeres never said no to United. He was, still is, if something falls through, open to joining Manchester United without Champions League football,” Ben Jacobs revealed on Thursday to The United Stand.

“[But] it’s never advanced further than the player’s camp simply saying ‘if Arsenal doesn’t come off, we would also be open to Manchester United’.”
