Het Nieuwsblad are reporting that Kortrijk head coach is a potential successor to Age Hareide as head coach of the Icelandic national team. Hareide recently resigned from the role after a disappointing Nations League, with Freyr Alexandersson of Kortrijk one of the men on the list to replace him. The Icelandic FA know the Kortrijk man well, with Alexandersson having worked as an assistant for the men’s senior team in the past, as well as head coach of the women’s team. Recently the Kortrijk man was linked with the vacancy at the clubs sister side Cardiff City, but the move never materialised.
Arnar Gunnlaugsson, coach of the Icelandic side Vikingur, who recently won 3-1 against Cercle Brugge in the Europa Conference League, is another name said to be on the shortlist. Kortrijk are in the bottom four of the Belgian Pro League and suffered a 4-0 defeat away to Westerlo this past weekend.
