An official Newcastle United injury update has followed Monday night’s victory at the King Power stadium.
United taking all three points as they strolled to a very comfortable 3-0 win.
A fourth win in a row due to three goals in the opening 34 minutes.
Jacob Murphy grabbing the first two and then Harvey Barnes completing the scoring.
It was also a case of exactly the same starting eleven now in the last four Newcastle United matches.
Two notable absentees from Monday night’s matchday squad though.
With matches coming thick and fast and Man U next up on Sunday, Eddie Howe delivering this official Newcastle United injury update after the win at Leicester City:
Ahead of Monday night’s match, the club had revealed that Joe Willock was missing from the squad due to concussion protocols.
Eddie Howe asked how things looked for the former Arsenal player ahead of Sunday:
“Joe’s concussion means that I don’t think he will make the weekend.”
Anthony Gordon was at last free from suspension but still missing from the squad against Leicester.
Eddie Howe asked how likely it is that we will see the England international involved against Man U:
“Anthony Gordon wasn’t close [to being available for the Leicester match].
“He hasn’t been able to train [with the group] yet.
“He is still feeling the effects of that tackle with England.
“We hope that we may see him soon.
“But I have got no certainty on that.”
It sounds like very little chance of Joe Willock making the matchday squad on Sunday against Man U and with Anthony Gordon a bit of an unknown.
The big positive is that whilst you want as many of your best players available as possible, Eddie Howe having had the luxury now of winning the last four games when Gordon has been missing. With Harvey Barnes getting involved in scoring and helping to create chances and goals, it takes a lot of the pressure off.
I think a possibility of Anthony Gordon making the squad against Man U, but regardless of that, hopefully both he and Joe Willock becoming available for two massive matches that swiftly follow, home to Palace and away at Villa.
