Borussia Dortmund are reportedly planning for a quiet January transfer window, with no new signings expected to be made.
The 2024/25 season has certainly not started in the way Borussia Dortmund would have liked, with the team down in seventh place in the Bundesliga and already out of the DFB-Pokal. But those in charge at the club retain confidence in the squad's ability to turn things around on the pitch, with SportBILD claiming that new signings are not planned for the winter transfer window.
According to the magazine, those in charge at Borussia Dortmund have faith in the squad that was assembled in the summer. Borussia Dortmund had a busy summer transfer window, and made a total of five signings. The BVB bosses also don't want to add more competition for places and impede the development of the exciting young players in the squad.
Some have criticised the size of the Borussia Dortmund squad, with the team's recent injury crisis forcing Nuri Sahin to use players out of position. Players have also been forced to play through the pain barrier, and squad rotation has not been possible amid the gruelling fixture list.
It remains to be seen just how much truth there is to this rumour as Borussia Dortmund have been very busy in the January transfer window over the last two seasons, signing the likes of Jadon Sancho and Ian Maatsen on loan last year and Julian Ryerson and Julien Duranville in 2023.
Teams in Europe are also facing one of the longest ever seasons in history with the FIFA Club World Cup set to take place in June. Borussia Dortmund have also qualified for the revamped global event, and their season could run till mid-July, which would certainly test the current squad to its limits.
