Nicolas Kuhn believes Celtic have returned to form at just the right time in the campaign – and the German winger is fully focused on finishing the season strongly as the Hoops look to add more silverware to an already memorable year.
Brendan Rodgers’ side responded in style to their last outing before the international break, bouncing back from derby disappointment to record an impressive 3-0 victory over Hearts at Celtic Park.
Reflecting on that performance, Kuhn told Celtic TV: “I think now after the game against Hearts, we are back on track and now we are looking forward to the end of the season.
“The international break was good. There were a lot of games beforehand so I think we were all fresh again. It was a good game, especially the first half.”
For Kuhn, the short break from club duties offered a chance to reset, both physically and mentally, as he made the trip back home to Germany.
“I saw my family. I was back in Germany. So, it was a good couple of days getting the head back on track, so now the focus is on the end of the season.”
The 25-year-old has been in sensational form since arriving in Paradise, with 18 goals and 14 assists to his name in all competitions. As he edges closer to the 20-goal mark, Kuhn is targeting more goals and more glory – but insists personal accolades come second to team success.
“I’ll be happy if I score 20 and just now going for the Treble.
“Scoring is the most important thing. People will look at the stats. For me it doesn’t matter though if I assist or score myself – both are really nice.”
A key feature of Celtic’s attacking momentum in recent months has been the reintroduction of Jota to the squad, and Kuhn is enjoying the blossoming relationship alongside the Portuguese star – as well as Daizen Maeda, who has now reached a staggering 30 goals this season.
“Game by game it’s getting better. The connection is starting to grow. The last game all three of us had an impact so hopefully we can keep going like this until the end of the season.
“I think in his new role as a striker Daizen’s doing a fantastic job. He’s always there and it’s great to play with him.”
With seven league matches remaining, and a Scottish Cup semi-final on the horizon, the winger knows the importance of staying focused – starting with Sunday’s trip to Perth to face St Johnstone.
“The focus is like every other game before as well – just to get the three points. Game by game, we have to step up and show our qualities.”
