The debut of Toni Fernandez was one of the biggest talking points as Barcelona secured a comfortable 4-0 win over Barbastro in Copa Del Rey last evening.
The 16-year-old prodigy made his highly-awaited professional debut by appearing as an 81st substitute, under the leadership of Hansi Flick.
In an exciting development for FC Barcelona, Toni Fernandez might just be packing his bags for Saudi Arabia to join the squad for the Spanish Supercopa as well.
With the Supercopa on the horizon and ongoing uncertainties surrounding the availability of Dani Olmo and Pau Victor due to registration issues, Fernandez’s chances of making the trip to Saudi Arabia look promising, reports Diario SPORT.
His warm-up routine alongside Marc Casado and Alejandro Balde during the Barbastro match, under the watchful eyes of Flick, was a clear indication of the trust and expectations placed on him.

Fernandez, who has been closely watched and nurtured by Flick since the preseason tour, showcased his potential by becoming the second-youngest player to ever debut for the Blaugrana, only behind Lamine Yamal.
His inclusion in the squad list multiple times this season hints at the high regard the German coach holds for him.
Now, as Barcelona prepare for the Super Cup, it will be interesting to see whether Fernandez can spark a surprise in Saudi Arabia.
From a sporting perspective, Fernandez’s dynamism in the final third could be useful as Barcelona prepare for the potential absence of Olmo.
Fernandez’s first coach had already described him as having a profile similar to Lamine Yamal. He can, therefore, offer that surprise package which Barcelona need.
