Barcelona’s player registration issues continue to cause uncertainty, with the situation expected to persist even after the Super Cup begins.

As reported by Mundo Deportivo, the club has requested a precautionary measure from the Spanish Sports Council (CSD), but the board is still waiting for feedback from La Liga and the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) before making a final decision.

This ongoing issue presents a challenge for Hansi Flick, who is now exploring alternative strategies in case players Dani Olmo and Pau Victor remain unavailable.

This dilemma is especially significant given the importance of the upcoming tournament and the pressing need for victory.

Barcelona are in trouble

The absence of key players from previous matches, including the one against Barbastro, has only heightened the pressure on Flick.

Losing a player of Olmo’s calibre is a severe setback for Barcelona, forcing the coach to rely on less experienced alternatives as the team enters a critical phase of the season.

Barcelona’s management is well aware of the difficulties posed by this situation, and the uncertainty over player availability complicates the team’s preparation.

The RFEF has acknowledged that current regulations do not fully align with Spanish legislation or the competition’s needs.

However, the federation has refrained from approving the re-registration of Olmo and Victor without being certain of future complications.

Both the RFEF and the employers’ association have distanced themselves from the issue, primarily due to significant pressure from other clubs.

What next for Barcelona?

Barcelona, for their part, have yet to receive an official report from the RFEF.

The club intends to present the same arguments before the CSD, including a legal point from article 100.2 of the regulations, which states that it is the club’s responsibility to register or deregister players.

It is important to note that the RFEF has been considering how to validate the registrations of Olmo and Victor, following Barcelona’s submission of the required documents between December 30 and 31.

While the club met the ‘fair play’ rule, the documents were submitted two days after the deadline.

La Liga required additional guarantees before validating the documents, which resulted in the players being officially released on January 1, as their contracts expired on the final day of 2024.
