New Newcastle United signing Antonio Cordero (popularly known as Antonito) started on Monday afternoon for the Spain Under 19s.

United’s new signing playing in the semi-finals of the UEFA Under 19 Euro Finals.

Spain finishing top of Group A, winning all three matches, Antonito starting in the first two wins against Denmark and Romania, then with his side safely through to the semi-finals, the Newcastle winger was rested for the final group match. Only coming on late as the Spain Under 19s won 5-0 against Montenegro.

Into the semi-finals then of these Under 19 Euro Finals and Germany the opponents out in Romania.

A quite incredible game, although the opening half gave little indication of the drama that was to come.

Max Moerstedt giving Germany the lead on 28 minutes, only for Spain to be awarded a penalty and Newcastle’s Antonito step up and…fail.

The match remaining 1-0 to Germany at the break.

Indeed, an hour gone and still 1-0, then the game exploded into life…

Pablo Garcia scoring the equaliser for Spain on 61 minutes, only for Said El Mala to put Germany back in front on 78 minutes.

Antonito one of five Spanish players subbed off in the second half as they looked to fight back.

Then when all looked lost, a minute into injury time Pablo Garcia gets his second goal and an equaliser to make it 2-2 before grabbing his hat-trick five minutes into added time to win it…only for an own goal with the last kick of injury time to keep Germany in at at 3-3.

Extra time to be played and seven minutes in it is Morera putting Spain 4-3 up, then just as the first half of extra time is coming to a close, Moersedt gets his second for Germany to make it 4-4.

Three minutes later and Moerstedt gets his hat-trick and 5-4 Germany, before with seven minutes of extra time remaining, Virgili scores for Spain and 5-5.

The final act with a minute to go before penalties are needed, Pablo Garcia with his fourth goal of the game and Spain are through to the final with a 6-5 victory!

The final will have to go some to live up to this semi-final!

Spain are the most successful team in the history of this competition, having won twelve titles, they are also the reigning champions. England are next highest with 11 previous title wins in past years, then France with eight.

It is the Netherlands v Romania at 8pm tonight to decide who will play Antonito and the Spain Under 19s in the final.
