New Napoli talisman Scott McTominay could equal his best-ever scoring record in a single club season this weekend. According to Corriere dello Sport, only Milan’s Tijjani Reijnders has been a more prolific midfielder in Serie A than the Scottish star this season.
Antonio Conte’s side will take on Cesc Fabregas’ Como in an exciting league encounter on Sunday early afternoon. Interestingly, McTominay’s first goal for Napoli came against none other than Como in October’s reverse fixture.
He broke the deadlock in the first minute to set the tone for a clear-cut 3-1 victory. After that, he added five more Serie A goals to the tally, establishing himself as one of the most influential figures in this Napoli team.
Indeed, the 28-year-old has racked up 22 league appearances for the Partenopei, amassing six goals and four assists. As a result, he’s one strike away from equaling his record for most goals in a single league campaign, having scored seven for Manchester United in 2023/24.
In addition to his Serie A exploits, McTominay has struck once in two Coppa Italia appearances. Therefore, it’s fair to say he has exceeded expectations at Napoli. The club paid Man Utd £25.7 million to sign him last summer.
At this point, that price looks like a bargain. If Napoli can fend off reigning Scudetto holders Inter, McTominay would be among the key figures behind their title push.
To put McTominay’s talismanic presence in context, Napoli won four and drew two of his six scoring appearances in Serie A.
