Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson has shut down rumours linking him with a move away from the Etihad Stadium this summer.
The 31-year-old has been on the radar of Saudi Pro League clubs for a while now, but nothing concrete has materialised from their interest.
Ederson has called speculation linking him with a move to the Middle East ‘fake news’ and pledged his loyalty to the Premier League club.
He has just one year left on his contract, so rumours about his future have intensified in recent weeks. But he has now put those rumours to bed.
“My future is here,” he said (via the Mirror). “Some friends send me a lot of news, but 99 percent is fake news. I understand you guys. You need the news to put a like on social media.
“I understand, but there’s a lot of fake news around my name.
“My head is here. It stays with City. It gives me everything to go back to the Premier League again and try to win the Champions League as well.”
The news will be a massive relief to manager Pep Guardiola and Man City fans, although nothing is guaranteed until the Brazilian goalkeeper signs a new deal.
Ederson has been a cornerstone of Man City’s success under Guardiola, and his presence in the team will be crucial as the club looks to reclaim their place at the pinnacle of English and European football.
Talks of Ederson’s potential exit led to rumours linking Man City with a move for Porto goalkeeper Diogo Costa. The Cityzens could revive their interest if Ederson reverses his decision this summer.
Ederson is focused on helping Man City win their second Club World Cup title.
Guardiola’s side have steamrolled their way to the knockout phase after winning all three of their group-stage matches.
