Alice Camepello defends her husband Alvaro Morata against exaggerated criticism from Spanish media while rumours about a possible move to Milan intensify.

Morata is expected to start for Spain in tonight’s EURO 2024 semi-final against France, but the build-up to the game has been dominated by the striker’s claims against Spanish media and some of the fans.

On Monday, the former Juventus striker told El Mundo that he was happier outside Spain and added in a second interview with Cadena COPE that he could quit international football after the Euros.

His words led to even more criticism from Spanish media, and one article by El Confidencial particularly hurt the Spaniard’s wife, the Italian Alice Campello.

The article’s title was ‘Morata, a captain that embarrasses Spain, not only for his poor level at the Euros.’

The striker’s wife replied with several Instagram stories.

“I hate to play the victim and cause controversy, but this does not seem normal to me,” she wrote.

“Is this normal? The only poor level I see here is the one of the journalist.

“It’s crazy that rather than cheer on a player of your national team, you try to make him sink. How do you think a person can give the best for his country when he doesn’t feel trust in him? What do you want to achieve with this title? Generate more hate for a person?

“Everyone is entitled to have his own opinion and is free to express it, but there are many ways to say things, especially when you work for a newspaper and you can influence young people and what they think,” she continued.

“Do we really want this? We have to be better people and not normalise these things, whether it’s about Alvaro or any other person.”

“Don’t forget that these players have a mother, a father, a wife and children who have to read this barbarity,” she wrote in a second story.

“This newspaper thing is just a simple example of thousands of other daily barbarities. Before talking, we should think about how our words could affect others.

“I repeat: each one is free to express his opinion but not to insult.”

Morata has two years left in his contract with Atletico Madrid, but he has a €13m clause that Milan are ready to trigger.

The latest report of La Gazzetta dello Sport on Tuesday reported that the Rossoneri had offered the Spaniard a €4m-a-year contract until June 2027.
