That is according to The Northern Echo, who also state that the club hasn’t been contacted by Trabzonspor but that doesn’t mean there isn’t going to be contact with the situation at this stage.

Middlesbrough's players have started to report back for pre-season, as they look to have a much better 2024/25 season than they did in the last campaign.

Boro were expected to be a side competing at the top end of the league and while towards the end of the campaign that did happen, a slow start to the season would cost them a place in the play-offs.

Michael Carrick will be keen to put things right this time around but it remains to be seen whether Barlaser will be part of his squad. The midfielder has been linked with a move away in recent days, with Süper Lig side Trabzonspor thought to be keen.

It was reported last week by Turkish media outlet 61 Saat that Trabzonspor had lodged a bid to sign Dan Barlaser from Middlesbrough.

That report didn’t say how much the Turkish side had bid for the midfielder, but it did state that Trabzonspor had been in discussions with the player and his representatives.

It went on to add that it is expected to be a busy summer transfer window for Trabzonspor, as they look to make some significant changes.

However, according to The Northern Echo, Boro have received no bids for Barlaser and haven’t received any contact from Trabzonspor as of yet.

The report goes on to add that it doesn’t mean the Championship side will not go on to receive a bid for the player, with it unclear at this stage how Middlesbrough would react to the bid.

The midfielder reported back for pre-season on Monday as the club look to live up to expectations in the upcoming campaign.

Middlesbrough signed Barlaser from Rotherham United in the January 2023 transfer window.

The 27-year-old originally started his career at Newcastle United, so he wasn’t unknown in that part of England.

Her really made a name for himself while playing for the Millers, but so far, he has been unable to replicate that form at the Riverside Stadium.

Barlaser has played 53 games for Middlesbrough so far, during which the midfielder has yet to score his first goal for the club but has recorded six assists.

Last season, he played 33 times in the Championship for Boro, with 26 coming from the start. His time at the club hasn’t gone as expected, and that could mean that if a bid were to arrive this summer, Boro may be willing to accept it.

Barlaser’s move to Middlesbrough hasn’t reached the heights that would have been expected when he joined the club.

The midfielder has been unable to have the same impact at Boro that he had at Rotherham, and therefore, that has probably meant his arrival has been viewed as a little disappointing.

Boro are expected to be busy with more arrivals in this transfer window, and with Aidan Morris set to join the club, it could mean that Middlesbrough look at players such as Barlaser as ones they could sell for a decent fee.

For whatever reason, the move hasn’t worked out yet. That isn’t to say it won’t, but Carrick may already be willing to let him leave so he can bring in a replacement he thinks will improve their team.
