Managers talk about all sorts in press conferences, but in practical terms we’re all listening out for one thing – injury updates.
Since Chelsea stopped doing their silly weekly injury report on the official website, it’s the only update we get from official sources. Things have improved hugely on this front since Christmas, but there also been bad news in the last couple of weeks in the form of a setback for Romeo Lavia and a new problem for Wesley Fofana.
The two of them have suffered endlessly since coming to Chelsea, and manager Enzo Maresca gets that. His update didn’t promise much positive, but focused on how the club would help them through what is presumably a pretty bleak time mentally for both of them:
“We are going to support them, first of all because they are our player and they’re also young. Wes will be out for the rest of the season. Hopefully we can get Romeo will be back soon, maybe not the next game but he looks quite good, Maresca said.
It’s particularly bleak for Fofana, who has now basically had four blank seasons in a row, and has just had surgery on his latest issue.
Marc Guiu looks to have injured himself against West Ham.
On another note, there was something positive that came out of nowhere – the news that Marc Guiu, who was injured when we faced West Ham in January, would be back before the end of the season. We probably won’t see a huge amount of him, but the Club World Cup to follow may give him another opportunity to get more minutes:
“Marc, we have good news today that he looks good and quite better. He can be back before the season finishes,” Maresca concluded.
