Marc Casado reveals his superstitious side, comparing himself to Rafael Nadal | OneFootball

One of the most popular parlance used in the world of coding is ‘when it ain’t broken, don’t fix it’. Being superstitious is almost an extension of the same principle in life, where you start associating success with certain patterns that you tend to exhibit.

Many sports professionals are known for being superstitious. One of the biggest examples in this regard is undoubtedly the tennis legend Rafael Nadal who recently announced his retirement from the glorious game. The Spaniard was one of the most superstitious people sport has ever seen.

Similarly, undoubtedly, there will be many footballers for whom superstition is deeply ingrained in them. In an interview as quoted by SPORT, Barcelona midfielder Marc Casado admitted that he has quite a few things although he is not at the same level as Rafa. He said:

“I’m quite particular. Maybe not as much as Rafael Nadal, but close. For instance, the volume number always had to be a multiple of six because I used to wear the number 6 jersey. I don’t know why—just little things that bring me peace. Call it what you will. Even my shoes—I arrange them a certain way. It happens both at home and on the pitch. I’m a very organized person.”

Casado currently wears the #17 at Barcelona, which is not a multiple of six but was the jersey number that was available for him to take. However, irrespective of what number he wears on his back, the midfielder has been the backbone of Hansi Flick’s team so far this season.

Things are progressing at a rapid rate for Marc Casado in his career as he has already played for the Spain senior team. After a cameo appearance off the bench, his performance in La Roja’s recent game grabbed a lot of eyeballs.

Slowly yet surely, Casado is emerging into a pivot of the highest quality. Not many expected him to have the positional sense that he is showing on the pitch and he is putting in displays that would make Sergio Busquets proud.

It is now safe to say that the 21-year-old belongs to the highest level. It is on Marc Casado now to keep working and forcing his way into Luis de la Fuente’s plans going forward.
