Officials at Manchester City are closing in on an agreement with Eintracht Frankfurt for highly-rated and versatile Egyptian forward Omar Marmoush.
The Premier League champions could make the 25-year-old their third deal of the ongoing January transfer window, with the arrival of two new central defenders expected to precede any movement with Frankfurt.
Lens and Uzbekistan international Abdukodir Khusanov is widely believed to be the most imminent of the deals to be completed, with the 20-year-old awaiting the approval of a work permit before undergoing his Manchester City medical this week.
City have agreed a €40 million fee with Lens plus add-ons, while Vitor Reis of Palmeiras is also en route to the UK to complete a deal just short of £30 million without any add-ons included in the agreement with the Brazilian club for the 19-year-old.
And the most challenging of the negotiations may now be nearing its conclusion, with a fresh report offering insight into the latest progress being made by Manchester City with German club Eintracht Frankfurt.
According to the information of The Mirror’s Ryan Taylor, City are closing in on a deal for Eintracht’s Omar Marmoush after sporting director Txiki Begiristain held fresh discussions with the relevant parties on Monday and launched the club’s first official proposal.
The report quotes German sources, who have suggested that City’s offer was between £55 million and £59 million inclusive of add-ons, while Frankfurt are standing firm on a £67.5 million valuation.
As for the latest stance taken by Manchester City, the report states that the club remain hopeful of making a breakthrough within the next 48 hours and before Eintracht Frankfurt’s Bundesliga meeting with Borussia Dortmund on Friday night.
The high-flying German top-flight outfit are reportedly seeking a base transfer fee of £59 million for the 25-year-old Egyptian and anticipate that the rest of a package with Manchester City will be made up of ‘realistic performance-related add-ons’.
Should a deal be completed as soon as this week, Manchester City fans may prepare to see the club’s soon-to-be Egyptian star make his debut in the UEFA Champions League, or at home against Chelsea in the Premier League.
This weekend’s tie against Ipswich Town at Portman Road in the English top-flight is likely to come too soon for all of Manchester City’s imminent signings, and as such a bow in European competition could be more feasible.
However, it remains to be seen whether Pep Guardiola would be willing to risk any new faces in a match of the magnitude as the trip to Paris Saint-Germain, with City knowing that the fixture is a must-win for the club in order to attempt to reach the last-16 of the competition.
