The January transfer window offers Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim his first opportunity to shape the team to fit his vision. However, the big moves are expected to come next summer, with Amorim reportedly targeting a key Paris Saint-Germain player.
United’s summer signing of Manuel Ugarte from PSG has been a success, with the midfielder thriving under Amorim’s guidance. Recently reported speculation suggests the Portuguese manager is eager to reunite with Nuno Mendes, a player he previously coached at Sporting Lisbon.
According to CaughtOffside, United remains highly interested in the 22-year-old left-back, who is reportedly open to the move following discussions with his representatives. If Mendes doesn’t extend his contract with PSG, the French club may consider offers of around €70 million during the summer transfer window.

TBR Football reported on Friday that Mendes has informed PSG of his desire to play under Ruben Amorim at Manchester United. The Portuguese wing-back has stepped back from contract negotiations with the Ligue 1 side, who are eager to secure him on a long-term deal.
PSG’s sporting advisor, Luis Campos, is pushing for Mendes to commit to the club, but the player is currently weighing his options, with Manchester United emerging as a possible destination.
The Red Devils have expressed their interest in Mendes, and their strong relationship with PSG—bolstered by last summer’s transfer of Ugarte—could facilitate discussions.
While PSG are reluctant to sell, they may need to consider it if Mendes declines to extend his contract, which has just 18 months remaining.
