Manchester United loanee Donny van de Beek has picked up an achilles injury which has resulted in him returning to his native Netherlands to receive treatment.

The Dutchman has endured yet another horrendous season where he has been totally unable to force himself into the first team at Eintracht Frankfurt, after joining the Bundesliga side on loan in January.

The player has only made eight appearances in the German league, after playing only two matches for United earlier in the season.

In total, he has only been on the pitch 378 minutes for the entire season.

Adding to his woes, he has not started for Frankfurt since the 25th of February against VfL Wolfsburg and last played in a defeat to Bayern Munich at the end of April.

Due to the player’s minimal impact the 2022 Europa League winners took the decision very early on not to extend his stay in Germany beyond this season.

The latest rumours have seen Van de Beek linked to his former club Ajax as he searches for a place to relaunch his stagnating career.

Dino Toppmoller, the Eintracht Frankfurt coach, has now confirmed in his pre-match press conference (via LigaInsider) that the Netherlands midfielder is out of this weekend’s fixture against Borussia Mönchengladbach.

“He is there (the Netherlands) because he is having treatment for a problem with his heel/Achilles tendon. He wanted to see his confidant this week”.

“Now we are doing everything we can to ensure that he can get in next week and possibly be an option for the last home game”.

The injury is yet another setback in an horrendous one on a personal level for the midfielder.

However, United have also struggled massively on and off the pitch with injuries.

Mason Mount is the latest player to pick up yet another problem in an injury-riddled debut campaign for the Englishman that has robbed him of any chance of making any real impact at the club.

There have been so many problems in this department that new owners INEOS have launched an investigation into Erik ten Hag’s training methods to try and get to the bottom of what is going wrong at the club.

If the Old Trafford side are to really reach the top table of English football again, they must rid themselves of the terrible injury curse that has plagued this season.
