Manchester United are closing in on a move for RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko and are now likely to beat Newcastle United to his signing. The Magpies initially submitted a bid worth €75 million plus €5m in add-ons, before raising it to €80m guaranteed plus €10m.That prompted United to swing into action, and they made their own offer of €75m plus €10m in add-ons.According to journalist Florian Plettenberg, the Mancunian giants are now ‘proposing around €80m as a fixed fee plus add-ons’ for the talented striker.

The Slovenian has agreed on personal terms with the club and is ready to sign a contract ‘running until at least 2030‘.However, there is still no agreement with Leipzig, but United will be confident of getting a deal done with Sesko, who is favouring a move to the club over Newcastle.Man United’s pursuit of the Slovenia international has been driven by director Christopher Vivell, although the club’s interest in him predates this summer.Vivell helped Leipzig secure the services of Sesko from sister club RB Salzburg, during his time at the German club.Former Man United coach Rene Meulensteen is unsure whether he is the right choice for the club. He believes United should sign a striker with a ‘Premier League proven record’.The Manchester outfit have already considered signing centre-forwards with English top-flight experience this summer. They enquired about Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins but are not ready to meet his valuation, while they failed to sign Liam Delap, who opted to join Chelsea from Ipswich Town. The Manchester outfit have already reinforced the attack with the signing of Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha, and Sesko could now be their third attacking signing this summer.United will be hoping he can fully maximise his potential if he joins the club as they aim to redeem their lost glory.
