Man City defender Jahmai Simpson-Pusey looks set for a loan move away from the Etihad this summer, with Championship clubs interested.
Manchester City defender Jahmai Simpson-Pusey looks set for a loan move away from the Etihad Stadium this summer, with Championship sides reportedly interested.
A report from journalist Pete O'Rourke via his X account on Wednesday revealed that the 19-year-old is a loan target for a host of second tier clubs, as well as sides in the Scottish Premiership.
Described as 'commanding' and a 'warrior' via his player profile on City's official club website, Simpson-Pusey has been with the Cityzens since the age of eight.
The teenager has been able to make six first-team appearances for Pep Guardiola's side, with two of those coming in the Premier League, and another two being in the Champions League.
So, the England youth international looks to be a young defender with plenty of talent and potential, and could be an excellent addition to a Championship side.
Football League World takes a look at three second tier sides that should consider swooping for him this summer.
After being steered to safety following the appointment of John Eustace in February, Derby County will now be aiming for a really competitive 25/26 season.
The arrivals of Carlton Morris and Patrick Agyemang respectively have sharpened their cutting edge in attack significantly, but one department that may still require bolstering is defence.
34-year-old Danny Batth has joined the Rams on a free transfer, but with Nat Phillips now at West Brom and with Eiran Cashin being poached by Brighton in the winter window, Eustace's defensive options have taken some major hits recently.
Crucially too, the former Blackburn boss favoured a back three approach at Pride Park last term, and should he persist with that - which is likely given their strong end to the campaign - then having sufficient strength in depth and quality options to deploy will be vitally important.
Therefore, adding Simpson-Pusey to a centre-back group consisting of Batth, Sondre Langas, Matt Clarke, Jake Rooney and the injured Curtis Nelson respectively, could be a very smart move indeed for Derby.
Hull City find themselves in a tough position when it comes to player recruitment this summer, having been placed under transfer restrictions that will prevent them from purchasing players for the next three windows.
However, the Tigers can still sign free agents and loan players, so long as those deals do not require the club spending a fee at any stage.
That could be very feasible when it comes to a loan agreement for Simpson-Pusey, as Manchester City will surely be more concerned about their young defender getting a good loan move rather than receiving a fee as part of it.
New Hull boss Sergej Jakirovic has been able to add former West Brom centre-back Semi Ajayi on a two-year deal, but he's also witnessing his centre-back room take some hits too.
Sean McLoughlin has recently completed a move to Blackburn Rovers, whilst vice-captain Alfie Jones is heading to Middlesbrough after a £3m deal has been agreed.
As such, Hull's centre-back options are now limited to Ajayi, Charlie Hughes and John Egan, and so Jakirovic will surely need at least another central defender to accommodate the aforementioned exits of McLoughlin and Jones.
Millwall are a club that are always looking to make smart, shrewd, financially-friendly deals, and so it wouldn't be a surprise if they are revealed to be a club taking a live interest in Simpson-Pusey.
They've been putting a real emphasis on signing young players recently, with the likes of Josh Coburn, Zak Sturge, Mihailo Ivanovic, Camiel Neghli, Luke Cundle and Tristan Crama all being examples of this clear recruitment strategy.
One department that the Lions always pride themselves in being strong at is in defence, with the club having a real philosophy centred around playing a physical, no-nonsense and organised brand of football.
Much of that stems from their centre-backs, with Jake Cooper being a perfect example of encapsulating everything Millwall are and try to be in that area of the pitch in particular.
However, the Lions stalwart may well be in need of a new centre-back partner next season, as Japhet Tanganga looks sure to depart The Den this summer.
The former Spurs man has a £1.2m release clause available for any Premier League side to trigger, and the likes of Crystal Palace, Sunderland, Burnley and Leeds United have all been linked with triggering it.
Therefore, whilst the aforementioned Crama can play as a central defender, he actually was primarily deployed as a right-back last term, and his performances there suggest it may be wise to keep him there.
Lions boss Alex Neil will likely want to add another body to his centre-back room regardless of what happens to Tanganga this summer, in order to ensure he has enough strength in depth to cover them for a long EFL season ahead.
Simpson-Pusey could be ideal in that regard, as he wouldn't find a centre-back group that is so crowded that he wouldn't receive opportunities to play, but it would still be competitive enough that he could really push and learn from the likes of Cooper.
