Paris Saint-Germain have been rocked after Lucas Hernández suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury which is set to rule him out until next year.

The France defender appeared to fall awkwardly trying to prevent Niclas Füllkrug from opening the scoring in the Champions League semi-final between the Ligue 1 champions and Borussia Dortmund on Wednesday night.

He could not continue and had to be replaced five minutes before half time in a blow to his side as they fell to a 1-0 defeat.

Now, their worst fears have been realised with Hernández set to undergo surgery on the problem which also keeps him out of his country’s Euro 2024 campaign.

“Lucas Hernández, who was injured during the UEFA Champions League match between Borussia Dortmund and Paris Saint-Germain, suffered a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee,” confirmed a club statement.

“The MRI performed today confirmed the diagnosis established by the club’s doctors on Wednesday evening.

“The player will undergo surgery in the coming days. A new return date will be made later.”

Hernández joined PSG last summer following a four-year spell with Bayern Munich.
