Lorient make enquiry for Leeds’ Illan Meslier | OneFootball

Illan Meslier (25), after a difficult past two seasons, has lost his starting place in goal at Leeds United. The Frenchman was part of the side that earned promotion back to the Premier League last season, however, his season between the sticks was marked – once again – by some high-profile errors.

As a result, Leeds sought out a replacement for Meslier this season and signed Lucas Perri from Olympique Lyonnais. As Leeds get their Premier League campaign underway against Everton on Monday, there is no doubt that it will be the Brazilian who wears the No.1 jersey.

Demoted, Meslier could leave the Yorkshire club. He could make a return to his boyhood club, FC Lorient, Sacha Tavolieri understands. Les Merlus, back in Ligue 1, have made an enquiry to bring their academy product back to the club. The former France U21 international left back in 2020 and has since gone on to play 214 matches for Leeds. But he may have played his last.
