Everton face a tough opening fixture in their 2025/26 Premier League campaign, travelling to a raucous Elland Road to face newly-promoted Leeds United on Monday night.
David Moyes’ side are aiming to banish the memory of recent relegation battles and demonstrate their ambition for a top-half finish. Moyes was re-appointed in the second half of last season and successfully steered the Toffees away from the relegation places to a final 13th-place finish.
Now, the manager’s task is to build on that recovery and re-establish the club in the top half of the table. The integration of seven new summer signings, including star loanee Jack Grealish, will be crucial as Everton look to start the new campaign on the front foot against a tough, newly-promoted opponent.
David Moyes has received a significant fitness boost ahead of the trip to Leeds. Left-back Vitalii Mykolenko, who had been a major doubt, appears to have won his fitness battle and is expected to start. His inclusion is crucial, with fellow defender Jarrad Branthwaite still sidelined through injury.
Moyes is set to field an industrious midfield, with Idrissa Gana Gueye and James Garner providing a solid defensive base. This will allow the energetic Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and star signing Jack Grealish the freedom to create chances. Up front, Beto is expected to lead the line as the lone striker, with support from the versatile Iliman Ndiaye.
Everton predicted XI: Pickford; O’Brien, Tarkowski, Keane, Mykolenko; Gueye, Garner; Ndiaye, Dewsbury-Hall, Grealish; Beto.
The Premier League fixture takes place at Elland Road on Monday, 18th August 2025, with kick-off scheduled for 8:00pm BST.
The match will be broadcast live on Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Premier League in the UK. Coverage begins at 7:30pm BST, and subscribers can also stream the action via the Sky Go app.
