Liverpool could threaten Arsenal’s bid to sign Alexander Isak from Newcastle this summer with the Reds reportedly interested in the forward’s teammate, Anthony Gordon.

Newcastle are understood to have internally accepted that a big name could depart in the summer transfer window as the Magpies look to remain compliant with the Premier League’s financial rules.

Eddie Howe’s side posted a post-tax loss of £73.4m for the 2022/23 season and the sale of one of the club’s leading names could ease concerns.

Isak and Bruno Guimaraes have been heavily linked with some of Europe’s elite clubs, with the latter possessing a release clause of around £100m that will become active for a short period in the summer. Isak could also attract bids in the region of £100m and is high on Arsenal’s shortlist as the Gunners search for a centre-forward.

The Sweden international has scored 20 goals in the Premier League this season, though the Daily Express are reporting that Arsenal’s hopes could be scuppered by Liverpool’s interest in signing Anthony Gordon.

According to the Daily Star, Liverpool are eyeing a move to bring ex-Everton winger Gordon back to Merseyside after a brilliant first full season at St James’ Park.

The 23-year-old was named Newcastle’s Player of the Season after becoming just the third player to reach 10+ goals and 10+ assists in a Premier League season for the club.

Newcastle would also demand a fee of around £100m for Gordon, who made his England debut in March. However, given the lower initial investment to sign Gordon (£40m) in comparison to record signing Isak (£63m), he would represent a more lucrative sale in terms of profit as the Magpies look to balance the books.
