Arsenal will sign a striker this summer and want their man in place before pre-season preparations begin.

According to the Independent, the Gunners’ striker shortlist includes Newcastle United’s Alexander Isak and Ajax’s Brian Brobbey.

They are keen on reinforcing their forward line after Gabriel Jesus struggled with injuries for most of the season.

Back-up centre-forward Eddie Nketiah is still not clinical enough to lead the line for a club of Arsenal’s stature.

Jesus netted only four Premier League goals this term, missing seven big chances, while Nketiah hit the back of the net five times.

Arsenal are in the market for a new striker to spearhead their title challenge next season.

They have now finished second in back-to-back seasons, and manager Mikel Arteta is already working on challenging Manchester City again next season.

Arteta is eyeing a move for Isak, who netted 21 goals for Newcastle in 30 league appearances.

However, the Magpies are determined not to lose the 24-year-old and will fight tooth and nail to retain his services.

Arsenal also have an eye on Dutchman Brobbey, who had a stellar scoring campaign for the Eredivisie giants. He netted 18 goals in 30 league appearances.

Brobbey’s hold-up play has always been excellent, but he found his clinical touch this season as Ajax struggled.

Apart from the centre-forward position, Arsenal also want to sign a new midfielder and have been linked with Newcastle’s Bruno Guimaraes.

Arsenal are also after a left-back to provide competition for Oleksandr Zinchenko, with Kieran Tierney set to leave permanently this summer.
