Trent Alexander-Arnold is one of the best players in the world, and with the right-back out of contract at Liverpool at the end of the season, Real Madrid are keen on signing the Anfield star in the January transfer window.

Alexander-Arnold is 26 now and is at the top of his game. He is a world-class right-back who is going to get better. Liverpool fans will be bitterly disappointed if the club let the England international leave in the middle of the season or even next summer.

Madrid are determined to get a deal done now. Los Blancos are desperate for a top-quality right-back after the long-term injury to Dani Carvajal, and Alexander-Arnold would be the perfect signing.

Speculation was rife this week about Madrid making a first bid for Alexander-Arnold. A report in Spain has claimed that it was £15 million.

According to Cadena SER, Madrid’s initial bid for the England international was £15 million. Liverpool turned it down.

The Times have reported that Carlo Ancelotti’s side, who won La Liga and the UEFA Champions League last season, are now ready to pay just over £20 million for Alexander-Arnold.

Both figures are simply laughable. Even with his contract about to run out in a few months, that is too low for arguably the best right-back on the planet.

Liverpool are a rich club who could win the Premier League and the UEFA Champions League this season.

It is hard to see Fenway Sports Group (FSG) being willing to sell Alexander-Arnold for £15 million or £20 million in the middle of the season.

True, it is unlikely that the right-back will sign a new contract in the final months of the campaign, but for Liverpool manager Arne Slot, it would be better to allow the right-back to leave as a free agent next summer than sell him for £15-20 million now and damage his side’s chances of winning major silverware this campaign.

Alexander-Arnold has scored one goal and given five assists in 23 matches in all competitions for Liverpool so far this season.
