Arne Slot has dismissed reports of Trent Alexander-Arnold joining Real Madrid this month, insisting his right-back is “fully committed” to Liverpool.

Liverpool trio Alexander-Arnold, Virgil van Dijk, and Mohamed Salah are yet to agree on new contracts with six months remaining on their current deals.

Reports have emerged that Real Madrid are hoping to sign the right-back this month but that Liverpool have knocked back a bid for the 26-year-old.

Asked if he has spoken to Alexander-Arnold about the recent news, Slot said: “I speak to every player, and for Trent, it’s the same.

“So yes, I have spoken to him. But do you really think I’ll tell you what I said? These conversations are private, and I’ve never shared them before.”

He also dismissed any concerns that the ongoing speculation could be a distraction, insisting that Alexander-Arnold remains fully focused on Liverpool’s title push.

“If transfer talk disrupted players at this club, we would have a serious problem,” Slot added. “Liverpool is one of the biggest clubs in the world—there is always speculation, 12 months a year, about our players. If that destabilised them, it wouldn’t just be a problem now but for the past six months as well.”

Alexander-Arnold has been instrumental in Liverpool’s campaign. He played a key role in the Reds’ dominant 5-0 victory over West Ham last weekend, scoring the fourth goal and continuing to showcase his influence in Slot’s system.

Slot says there is still room for further development for Alexander-Arnold, however.

“Trent can improve, but we’re talking about players who are already among the best in the world,” the Dutchman said. “There isn’t much more they need to improve, but small details can always make a difference.”

For now, Liverpool remain firm in their stance, rejecting Real Madrid’s advances and focusing on securing a contract extension for one of their most influential players. However, until Alexander-Arnold commits to a new deal, uncertainty over his future will continue.
