Matchday Seven took place this past weekend as Chivas faced the difficult task of heading to Toluca as two of the top teams from the Apertura went head-to-head as Cruz Azul arrived at the Estadio Universitario for a meeting with Tigres.
Anticipation was through the roof on the other side of Monterrey as Los Rayados travelled to Querétaro with the side in order to hand Sergio Ramos a debut for the club.
Here is all that happened:
Club América 2-3 Necaxa
Las Águilas came into this meeting with an unbeaten record, but they were left stunned when Necaxa raced into a 2-0 lead inside the first 30 minutes. Jose Paradela grabbed the go-ahead goal in the third minute before Diber Cambindo continued his blistering start to the season, scoring seven goals from seven. Andre Jardine's men made a remarkable comeback in the second half, but a red card to Kevin Alvarez left them hanging on as Kevin Rosero found time to score a late-late winner for the visitors deep into added time.
Mazatlán 1-1 Santos Laguna
Fernando Ortiz recorded a first point for Santos when Bruno Barticciotto scored his first goal for the club, after signing on loan from Argentine side Talleres. The point leaves Mazatlán just outside the Liguilla places and winless in three games whilst ending a run of two straight defeats to León and Pumas.
Tijuana 1-2 FC Juárez
Los Bravos are the feel-good story of this season and kept that narrative alive with a last-gasped winner against the Apertura "David's" of the "Goliath's". Tijuana found themselves ahead within the opening 120 seconds through José Zúñiga but the sides were back level on 20 minutes when Guillherme Castillo brought Juárez back into the game. With the game hanging in the balance, Angel Zaldivar netted the all-important goal, three minutes into added time in the second half.
Atlas 3-2 Puebla
A game won in the most dramatic of fashions. Puebla were minutes away from a second victory in three games after Efrain Orona and Ricardo Martín gave them a 2-1 lead at the Estadio Jalisco but Atlas grabbed a late equaliser in the 93-minute. Already bruised, Atlas were out for the kill and they completed the most unbelievable of comebacks six minutes later when Uros Durdevic stabbed the ball into the net to hand the home side a first league win of the season.
Tigres 2-1 Cruz Azul
Tigres and Cruz Azul were two of the top sides in the Apertura - finishing third and first respectively. At the start of the Clausura, both sides find themselves within the Liguilla positions with this meeting on matchday seven demanding attention. Despite the excitement, this game got off to a slow start with no goals in the first half but that would all change at the beginning of the second. Tigres came out flying, Diego Lainez opened the scoring two minutes after the restart as Joaquim doubled their lead five minutes later. They then shot themselves in the foot when Nicolás Ibanez received a straight red card but La Máquina could only find a consolation goal, once again deep into added time when Ignacio Rivero scored his second of the season, but it was not enough as Tigres held onto the points.
Toluca 2-1 Chivas
Saturday night was a big evening of action for Liga MX, heading from Monterrey to Toluca as Chivas were in town to meet Antonio Mohamed's men. The first swing of the game went in favour of the home side as former Chivas star Alexis Vega gave the home side the lead but Chivas pegged them back in the 70' minute as Hugo Camberos brought the visitors back into the game. As was the story of the weekend, the was yet another game to be decided in the final moments as Toluca broke forward in search of a winner as Brian Garcia stepped up to the occasion to force the ball beyond Raul Rangel in the Chivas net.
Querétaro 2 - 4 Monterrey
All eyes were on Queretaro with anticipation of a Sergio Ramos debut for the visitors, but fans will be made to wait with the former Real Madrid captain not even on the bench. Nonetheless, goals from Jesus Corona, Ricardo Chávez and Germán Berterame gave Los Rayados the perfect start. Cruising to victory, Los Gallos pulled one back through José Canale but the lead was restored as Oliver Torres added a fourth. There was time for one last goal in the game as Querétaro found a second, but the result leaves them two points behind Monterrey in 14th position.
San Luis 1 - 2 León
James Rodríguez was on hand to provide two assists to guide Leon to another three points to start the Clausura. First was a delightful cross for Stiven Mendoza in the second minute before setting up Paul Bellon three minutes before the end. Despite the win, Leon needed to hang on as Sébastian Lamonge brought San Luis level twenty minutes after going behind but the French forward missed a penalty in the 98' minute to steal a point. The result puts Leon top of the league, following Club America's loss whilst San Luis are in 17th, only worsened by Santos Laguna.
Pachuca 2 - 1 Pumas
