Brighton & Hove Albion are understood to have entered the summer race to sign Leeds United winger Crysencio Summerville, as interest from Liverpool and Chelsea continues to loom, as per a report from Fabrizio Romano.

Failure to win promotion to the Premier League has subsequently caused Leeds a lot of problems. They did know of the potential ramifications that would come if they didn't achieve their goals, so that makes the scale of the blows they now face a bit less scary, but scary nonetheless.

A report on the financial state that the club would be in should promotion not come their way came from the Daily Mail, who said that they would need to sell up to £100 million worth of players if they win the play-offs.

We all know how that panned out, and now there is a real possibility that Leeds could lose a lot of their top talent.

Archie Gray, Wilfried Gnonto, Georginio Rutter; these are all candidates who could potentially find themselves leaving Elland Road this summer, for the right price. But one name on Daniel Farke's squad list is more at risk of departing than any other.

Summerville is the reigning Championship Player of the Season, and winners of said award don't tend to stick about in the second tier for too long.

A short queue of top flight teams that were intrigued by the Dutchman had started to form, and now that line has grown a little bit bigger.

The Seagulls have been reported to have made initial contact with the Championship club over the winger, and have joined Liverpool and Chelsea in the race to sign him, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

The Seagulls have been one of the best examples of how to do business in the transfer window over recent seasons, and the addition of Summerville would further emphasise their ability to sign good players, even though he isn't as much of a hidden gem as they tend to go for.

There is an understanding on the Brighton end that a deal for the 22-year-old won't be straightforward, according to Romano, but they are seeing whether they could work something out with United.

All three Premier League clubs have recently appointed new managers, with the most recent of the trio being Fabian Hurzeler, the 31-year-old former St Pauli head coach, who is now the youngest full-time boss of a Premier League team ever.

Romano further described the race for Summerville as being "open".

Leeds United need to get the timing of the Crysencio Summerville sale right

There certainly feels like an inevitability around the future of the 22-year-old.

If he is still a Leeds player come September it will be a big surprise to a lot of people, especially given that the Daily Mail reported that a fee in excess of £30 million may be enough to get him, which is pretty miniscule, especially for Liverpool and Chelsea.

Reports haven't suggested that they must offload their star before the end of June, in order to try and comply with financial regulations, but they do need to pay £73 million to other clubs before the end of the month for old deals.

If it in any way benefits them, in terms of FFP standings and things like that, to have sold some players by a certain stage of the window, then they must do it, no matter how hard it is. If not, then they can try to hold out for as long as possible and drive the price up.
