David Norris believes a move to an "elite" Premier League club may not be on the cards for Summerville this summer.

Highlights

  1. Leeds United may have to sell key players like Summerville to avoid sanctions and balance finances after missing Premier League promotion.
  2. David Norris predicts Summerville may end up at clubs like Aston Villa or Newcastle, aiming slightly below elite status, due to financial constraints.
  3. If Summerville leaves Leeds, he must prioritise regular playing time at his next club to continue developing and realising his potential.

Former Leeds United player David Norris believes a move to Aston Villa or Newcastle United could potentially be on the horizon for Crysencio Summerville this summer, speaking to MOT Leeds News.

The Whites may need to offload some of their key players during the summer window, with the club needing to balance the books following their failure to win promotion back to the Premier League at the first time of asking.

Although they are currently in a strong position to go on and push for promotion again next term, they will have an eye on whether they are on track to continue abiding by financial rules.

A breach of these rules could see transfer embargoes and points deductions materialise, which wouldn't be ideal for an ambitious Leeds side who will want to get themselves back to the top level as quickly as possible following their heartbreak at Wembley last month.

With these potential punishments in mind, the Whites may be willing to offload some of their key men if it meant avoiding sanctions, and Summerville is one man who will surely be in the frame to leave Elland Road before the end of August.

The Dutchman was exceptional for Daniel Farke's side during the 2023/24 campaign and is likely to be a player of interest to many teams, even though he didn't perform well during the play-off final in May.

David Norris makes Leeds United exit prediction on Crysencio Summerville

Liverpool could have the funds to pay the amount needed to recruit Summerville, having been linked with a move for him, but Norris thinks the Dutchman have to settle for a club that's less likely to win the Premier League title.

He told MOT Leeds News: "I see him at the next level down from [the elite clubs] – someone of the ilk of an Aston Villa or a Newcastle, for example.

"One of the big boys might take a punt on him but I think it would be a bigger gamble with the money that’s being talked about.

"These clubs might want someone a bit more tried and tested at the level.

"I would say Chelsea are a possibility, as they’ve not quite been at the level they had been previously and Summerville might be the right type of player for them at the moment."

Crysencio Summerville needs to prioritise one thing if he leaves Leeds United

At Leeds, Summerville is pretty much guaranteed to start most games.

The likes of Dan James and Willy Gnonto could replace him on the left, but he was such a key player during the 2023/24 campaign and Farke may retain faith in the Dutchman, even when he doesn't perform that well.

If he moves to the top level though, his next club may not be as forgiving, with competition for a wing spot likely to be even stronger.

And if he does move on this summer, the 22-year-old needs to join a team where he's likely to start regularly.

Regular game time is needed if Summerville is to have a real chance of fulfilling his potential and he may get that with a team that's competing in the bottom half of the top flight.
